Many thanks to everyone who attended the Installation of Officers on March 31 and especially to my wife, Sheri, who turned it into a surprise birthday party for me as well. As always, Steve Nelson did a great job as our DJ, and the dance floor got a good workout. Thanks also to PER Charlie Bates, who conducted a ritual practice session for the new officers. Charlie knows the ritual extremely well and holds it very dear. If you haven’t attended an initiation meeting in a while, come this month and let us know how we’re doing. May brings spring flowers, the Kentucky Derby, and a chance to Howl at the Moon, our annual kick-off to the pool season. I don’t know about you, but I can’t wait to get into the water! It’s one of the great benefits of being a Roanoke Elk, and bringing friends as guests is a wonderful way to introduce them to our Order. But let’s remember that we are not just a swim club or a resort. We are all brothers and sisters as Elks, and that makes us family. When things get a little hectic at the pool, take a second to think of the Golden Rule, which our ritual reminds us should govern all mankind. We are always looking for members who want to get more involved in the important work we do at the Lodge and in our community. You probably have heard it said that service to others is the rent we pay for the blessings that we enjoy. Contact any officer or committee chair to let us know what you can do. Finding the right spot to use our talents will help each of us to “Give the World a Better Elk!”

12 noon ‘til 6:00 pm
We are opening the pool for the day before the regular season begins so that you can introduce your friends to our Lodge, pool and other amenities! Bring the family...and you MUST bring a guest (or guests!) to get in. And there’s NO CHARGE for family members or guests to use the pool on this day! Members will be on hand to provide tours and info about our organization, activities and good works.
